Grants Applications for 2008

NCPHEM is pleased to announce that grant proposals for projects and/or programs designed to enhance the ministry will be accepted from campus ministries and chaplaincies again next year. There is a total of approximately $14,000 available.

All requests for grants must come to NCPHEM with a recommendation from the Presbytery Committee within each member Presbytery which holds responsibility for campus ministries and/or chaplaincies in North Carolina.

Ideas for grant proposals are limited only by need and imagination. In the past, awards have been granted for a wide variety of requests including partial funding for mission trips, office equipment, a pilot program in spiritual direction for faculty and staff, a labyrinth, student gatherings, an intern, a film project and a campus meditation garden.

Proposals, including project/program description, Presbytery recommendation, time line and budget, should be sent to the Secretary of the Board by February 15, 2008. Proposals will be reviewed by NCPHEM and grants awarded on merit at the March 2008 Board meeting.

Send proposals to:

Linda Freeman
13339 Bolingbrook Lane
Charlotte, NC 28273-9055
704/588-2182 (phone & fax)
704/588-0183
linda_freeman@msn.com (preferred)

In accordance with federal not-for-profit corporation regulations, successful grant recipients must submit a progress report of the project or program to the Secretary of NCPHEM within one year of the award.

NCPHEM expects programs receiving grants to put information about the grant on their websites. Web pages should show the purpose of the grant and how the grant was actually used and by whom. The website should recognize North Carolina Presbyterian Higher Education Ministries as the funding organization. Web addresses for these pages should be sent to the NCPHEM Secretary as listed above.

COLLEGIATE COUNCIL: A couple of years ago a new Collegiate Council was formed -- this is a council of University/College students who were interested in continuing opportunities available through Youth Councils in high school, and formed this council to hold retreats and/or events for college students throughout North Carolina. Please pray for their continued efforts.

“Behold, I am doing a new thing —
don’t you see it!”

Be a part of College & University outreach today.

North Carolina is home to over 115 colleges and universities. Many, if not all, of these institutions have Presbyterian students, faculty or staff on campus along with Presbyterian churches located nearby. Higher Education Ministries is concerned about ministering to all persons on campus and about helping nearby congregations connecting with these schools.

For the past several years the outreach of Presbyterians to these institutions was coordinated through the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic.
Now, the Synod is releasing the higher education ministry to the presbyteries. In response, the five presbyteries of North Carolina are now working together to support these ministries in North Carolina.

The new organization has a vision to provide support, encouragement, funding and witness in higher education settings.
This new design will flourish as Presbyterians get informed and involved.
